I agree, either 1950s version will do. A Night to Remember is excellent for the general "facts," but I can't resist Clifton Webb as Mr. Snob Richard Ward Sturges in Titanic (1953).

Despite the hoopla over Cameron's Titanic, I did not care for it as much though I loved the color and costumes and music, especially the theme song. I knew the outcome and didn't want to have it so gruesomely displayed for so long.

I much prefer the 1950's version even though it was in black and white and still had the same outcome.

Well, the comment by "those in the know" at my house is "there was a lot of fighting." John Carter would be happy. Don't know about anyone else. :)

I've heard nothing but bad reviews about this and most of those were by people who didn't have your valid reason. Sometimes I think the world created in books is so unique to each reader that a movie is doomed from the start if it adheres to the book too closely and doomed in the same manner if it gets "adapted" to a new vision of the world and its characters.

Wonderful post.

A point I've wondered about is how the plaigarist was able to make money on the books she stole when so many authors are struggling to make any money. And evidently she was making money. Go figure...

Now write the next chapter.

Welcome to the wonderful world of e-books. Book books are exquisite but often our lives become so much more simplified with the new e-readers. :-)

Didn't read the book, but did see the movie (big surprise, I know LOL). That issue made for a very powerful scene!

Ahh, retouching. I found it amazing how bad some TV actors, newscasters etc skin was when I first watched an evening of high definition TV. And the articles I've read about the high incidence of serious cosmetic surgery done on teen girls to make then more "beautiful" is depressing.

I remember reading Michener's Sayonara shortly after it came out. The the public outcry at the subplot of the Japanese wife who wanted to have her eyes redone to make them more western in appearance was very high. That would be nothing in today's world.

Well, MJ, someone's head was knocked. “to boldly go” has to be the most famous split infinitive of the 20th century and beyond! LOL
